The Pure JOY of COLLECTING

Greetings Lovelies!! Cheers to you from Bohemian Grove!
I've been delighting in the very idea of collecting… And have found it to be so entirely satisfying. For whatever reason, the very nature of collecting gives us permission to… always be on a treasure hunt… Spend money when we really shouldn't… Find excuses to stop into any "seedy" shops we pass… Just hoping to find another diamond. I think most of us really are just busy little magpies…Surrounding ourselves with bits of wonder. Hoping you have a favorite collection to keep feeding… And if not… Stop dreaming… And go find your first piece of deliciousness!

It's been fun to share…Do tell us what you LOVE to collect…. Gather…. + display in your homes.
Happy Summertime to you all!!
Sarah
P.S… DEAR TRACY! If you squint your eyes and look at the top of this shot… My LAVENDER has just finished sleeping + just this week… has sprung back to life!! (what could be better)!!
Zone 4 really does have similarities with your California climate! (smile, smile….. Smile)!!
*This post is dedicated to Granny… The loveliest magpie the world has known.
We miss you dearly + are so happy to share your passion for collecting today…Kisses… Kisses.. (These beauties are pieces from her vintage cloisonné collection)

What a marvelous collection Sarah. I love the way you layered your mantel.
I used to love going to my grandparents garage sale because they couldn’t believe the things that I wanted of theirs, (and still have). Of course they wouldn’t take my money.
Where did your grandma get these treasures? Did she travel?
xo
Good Morning! The kids and I were thrilled to catch a glimpse of the babies!!! They are adorable. That Granny…those pieces are just as colorful as she was…I know she is thrilled that they are in your home! I’m game to travel/shop whenever you are…wink wink.

LOL..Sarah..I can imagine what it took to get that shot…Let me see, I collect alot of many different things, I love Remington statues, I have about 10 of them scattered through out my home. But they are mixed with things from my trips around the world, like Asian, European, to African, to Austrailia, to many other places. I do buy a Christmas ornament to every place I’ve visited. I have been around the world 3 times and have visited about every place except the Artic and Japan. Even in the USA I collect X-mas ornaments from wherever I have visited. I have a special tree at Christmas time, I decorate and it gives me great memories from these places and it is quite full. My Home is a collection of many diffrent influences. Horses are the biggest part of everything.
Angela…you sweetie, my back has it’s good and bad days and I am forced to take it easy, can’t do another thing, until I rest. My Sis is coming in on Sunday to get another CAT Scan..and then consultation on Tuesday. Nervous about this more than anything else.
My Horse is going through a series of exams., there is nothing conclusive, but he is lame and in pain and there is swelling. Alot of vets are involved, so waiting for them to get together this week.
It’s a beuatiful day here in the Burgh, and hopefully we can get our dock in by the end of the week. Have a great June 2nd, everyone!
Lovely pictures, adorable chicks Sarah, thanks! Makes me long for the country.
I never collected anything in the early years of my marriage. We moved too often! Pewter was first, half already I sold off on Ebay, taste changes. When I started to paint, junk hunting became an addiction, I needed items to paint. Chickens were in for awhile. One time angels, some are still flying around and of course the gnomes.
A long time ago Tracy posted a Christmas Ornament, I believe it was light green color. The design of the ornament was done by pins with pearls on a covered styrofoam ball. Some ornaments look like sputniks. Hard to describe. I collected these ornaments until there was no more space on my tree. But my most prized possessions are from my grandmother’s house. A love letter to my great grandfather from 1874! It is written with such beautiful language and so politely, so respectful towards the parents. A lost art.
SARAH….HA! Thanks for making the extraordinary effort to get the perfect shots! A girl has to do what a girl has to do….and you seem to do EVERYTHING with such style!! Tracy too! The question is what don’t I collect?
Treasures of all kinds…candles, birds nests, lamps…oh never ever enough lamps! Dishes are a weakness as well as..vintage prints…dishtowels (just found a vintage Cape Cod the other day)old books and fabric…fabric…fabric…did I mention lamps and dishes….oh I just want to jump in the car and stake out some, as you so perfectly described it….”seedy” places!
Happy collecting to all!
Sarah……….My collection……..OH DEAR…..I love picture frames, lamps, little tables, vases and miniture shoes called “Just the Right Shoe”…..plus purses and real shoes….jewelry…….its endless…..anything more than 2-6 is a collection…..oh also love rugs….towels, pillows (I have over 13 on my bed alone….not counting other beds and couchs….and 20 in the RV……..glasses…….even eye glasses and sun glasses……..its endless!!!!!!!!! I love life and all that is in it…..I dont have a room of collectables…..just many many things of it all!!……My FOREHEAD IS RAW…..WITH DELIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!….If it dont make my socks fall off………..I dont buy it!!!!!
Love the colors in your collection. I have a little shelf that I intend on copying your vignette with. So much fun to hear from Bohemian Grove. Thank you.
Gorgeous, vibrant colors in these photos, SARAH. So sweet that the items came from your grandmother. Let’s see, what do I collect….well TRACY PORTER dishes, etc! Also….anything ASIAN, metal tins and plates in an Asian pattern, or anything with birds…, silver trays, silver anything! Dishes, dishes, oh my…., little prints in frames from ITALY. Blue and White porcelain…love, love LOVE! I may have to add to this list, but will stop or I may embarrass myself!
Sarah, I so enjoy your sharing of all the wonderful things you discover – all the beauty you surround yourself with. Thank you for letting us share in that joy.
As for collecting , I love teapots, and old pictures with scenes of trees and streams with sheep or cows grazing on grassy knolls. Also have a soft spot for dogs in paintings and in porcelain figurines.
One of the neatest collections I ever saw was one of a Harvard professor and his wife who had traveled the world over. They had collected brass bells on their many journeys. They hung them on the ceiling of an enclosed porch which was the main entrance to their house. You could reach up and swipe your hand across them to get the most beautiful sound. A lovely way to enter a home.
That’s it! Time for a book of your own. Title: Bohemian Grove
we are all cut from the same cloth durls. sarah..how many times did you have to reposition those chicks? lol i soooooo get it!!!! we all do……love everything about you and T. i do have my own collections…..shells…birdcages in every size and shape….nests…eggs…majolica…faux bois…china tea cups and pots….ooooohh wine glasses….books…vintage postcards of places we’ve visited….all that speak to me and call my name. how can i not give them a home….they know me!!!!
oh….and i do like rusted things.
if you can believe it… some of my friends don’t get the rusty thing. what’s up with that???
